ASCENSÜS. 2022.

ASCENSÜS is a product of a dream-like narrative of queer people escaping Earth and seeking asylum on Plutopia, an inclusive space void of heteronormative biases.

The work portrays the contracting liminal space between birth and death as well as the coming together of the ‘current self’ and the ‘potential self’. The one-person spaceship is filled with queer related artifacts and artwork from members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as from the artist themselves.

Describing how the road to self-discovery may not be as lonely as once anticipated, mirroring the endless journey to reach Plutopia.

A commentary of and extension to Hal Fischer’s work on gay semiotics, Ryan Asbury’s ongoing project provides a contemporary view of fetishised activities, and the objects associated with them. Originally published in 1977 ‘Gay Semiotics’ detail types of semiotic modes commonly used at the time in both every day and kink communities. Inspired by Fischer’s clinical approach in his photography, ‘Eros’ deconstructs the binary of the Sub / Dom relationship and describes alternative mainstream kinks.

This project would provide a safe space for education and ignite sex positive discussions. As well as to emphasise the combining of specific objects which are used in fetish play. With the intention of dismantling kink associated stigmas and overall creating a sex positive atmosphere.
